>>Healing, resilience, and stopping the cycle of abuse
Over 40% of women aged 15–49 (in Kenya) have experienced physical or sexual violence
-(K.D.H.S)
There’s a crisis of gender based violence in Kenya and Africa at large.
Alongside this crisis, women and children in marginalized regions in Kenya face deeply overlapping psychosocial traumas driven by: high rates of gender-based violence, adolescent exploitation, harmful practices, and generational poverty. Left unaddressed, this combination of traumas ends up manifesting as chronic PTSD, depression, addictions, child marriages, adolescent pregnancies, and generational cycles of isolated pain.
Healing For All provides free, trauma-informed therapy sessions to girls, young women, and children affected by trauma, violence, and other forms of severe psychosocial distress.
Handled by licensed therapists with lived experiences, we help them address the effects of trauma while supporting them in rebuilding safety, emotional wellbeing, relationships, and everyday functioning.
We strongly believe that everyone deserves a chance to heal and lead a better life – regardless of their financial circumstances.
What the program does
Through donor funding, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships the program:
- Offers free therapy and counselling sessions to women, girls, and children recovering from severe trauma, violence, and psychosocial distress
- Offers subsidized therapy services to those that can co-pay toward their therapy sessions
- Trains and mobilizes a network of vetted mental health and wellness experts to provide care to vulnerable individuals and grassroot community groups
We partner with children’s homes, rescue shelters, community groups, and local administrative offices to support:
- Displaced and sheltered minors in children’s homes with no access to needed mental healthcare and wellness support
GBV, abuse, and exploitation survivors recovering from physical, emotional, or sexual violence
- Adolescent mothers facing the intense community stigma, isolation, and psychological distress of early, unplanned pregnancies
- Young girls and women facing multiple vulnerabilities within the community (exploitation, intergenerational trauma, survivors of harmful practices etc)
- Young mothers experiencing pregnancy related / postpartum / perinatal distress
We however do not exclude people based on gender, location, or age. We remain open to supporting other individuals experiencing serious mental-health needs and financial barriers to care.
How your support creates impact:
Your contribution sponsors a therapy session for someone (or a group) in need or in crisis. It helps us:
- Provide more free therapy sessions to trauma survivors. $25 = 1 session
- Expand support to underserved and vulnerable coastal community groups with therapy services delivered by qualified professionals
- Reduce financial barriers to mental health care and healing; especially for children, young girls, and women who've faced deep trauma
While this program provides free therapy services for trauma survivors, we must also confront the beliefs, cultures, societal norms, perspectives, and systems that allow violence to persist.
For this reason, in addition to providing support, we also stand against violence, injustice, and promote a world that is respectful to all. Our awareness and education program serves this purpose – we aim to shift harmful social norms before GBV escalates further.
